Raising the foresail in the morning

It’s a daily ritual if you want to go sailing. The breakfast dishes have been cleaned up and put away. Now the real fun begins aboard the historic schooner Louis R. French.

For more schooner sailing experiences, take a look at my Under Sail photo album at Thistle Finch editions.

    1. Being on the water like that certainly adds to our understanding of the ship captains and builders in the Shackford family. I find that it also clarifies the differences between the “coasting” trade of schooners (we were never out of sight of land) and the ocean crossings of the larger, more complex square-riggers.
