SUMP PUMP

I’ve learned to listen whenever we get heavy rain. Check to see that the jerry-rigged sump pump is still upright and its line’s not clogged.

Yes, indeed: too much rain, and the sump pump kicks in. Or else the cellar floods, along with the furnace.

It’s all a matter of perspective.

    1. And what else, on that list?
I’m recalling how my wife would awaken, hearing something in the breathing of a child in another room.
      Amazing, really.
      As for a homeowner …

  1. Yup. And my sump pump has taken a bit away from the peace of nature’s solitude in a long, steady rain. Such enjoyment to listen and watch … the rain, that is.

The pump’s location is right under my reading spot in the living room. When it kicks in, I look out the window to make sure the discharge isn’t frozen like it was a couple of hears ago. The prolonged whirring in the basement was coming from a pretty unhappy and “steaming warm” submerged motor. Ah, what fun.

And there was the time it didn’t work at all. Another story for another time. But my wet-vac earned her keep that day.
