so little to be done
within wildfire, earthquake,
avalanche, glacier-flow

rainstorm, blizzard,
wind, blue stars, splintering lightning
all an incomprehensible frontier

evaluating ways
two mountains are never interchangeable
no matter how ageless

all act in this process
of fleeting billows, fog,
volcanic fumes

and rumbling
through valleys
of farms and cities, their herds

browsing in that curatorial echo
of eroding subterranean

current that pulls
each doorjamb and keystone
down to ragged fill

where crops
and families
keep rising
