after hearing all these years the War Between the States
was about preserving state’s rights
see how the Confederacy always had it backwards
no defenders down de ribber
where those slaveholders obliterated
the state’s rights of the North
the Dred Scott decision was a volley, watch
slavery in America hardened over time
from something not too distant
from the institution of indentured
or bonded servitude many whites endured
and multiplied into that vile racist cancer
festering in hip-hop ghettoes

the great ironies, how Dixie ruled before the war
and rules today with globalization
and Walmart sticks the pins in the map
and the poor see no choice
in selling their freedom

That’s what Woodpecker said to Crow.
