Dover was once an active seaport, attracting sailing vessels from around the world. Eventually, though, the river connection closed in.

Now that dredging has reopened the passage — including a section by the former power plant that had been jammed with noxious tar — we once again have boats waiting for summer waters.

We even have a lighthouse, a whimsical touch.
